About shoes
Okay, I have been casually browsing the net looking for some nicer shoes to go with a grey Montrose doublet with antique brass buttons. I haven't been finding much that I like. I was considering a nice pair of high gloss black wing tips, but then I came across these. They are unique, so they caught my eye rather quickly. The thing is that I'm not too sure how they would look with a tricked out doublet. I personally like them (the wife hates them), but I don't want to look like a piper. (No offence to any pipers on here, but I'm not in a band.) So I thought I would see what the rabble has to say.

Even though the style emulates the look of a brogued shoe with spats it is a modern style to my eye. If your doublet is more modern but emulating an older style it might work but I think you might have too many competing components to pull it off. What kilt are you thinking of pairing these with?

I'm with Rondo on this one. Maybe it's the buttons but they strike me as off. I found these you may like. They are in a similar style, but a little more modern

The choice is entirely yours but were it me I would listen to my wife, my friend.

I can't see a pic in the OP so can't give an opinion.

Your wife and I agree about those shoes! Very much the Poirot look ... so if you want to look like Agatha Christie's Belgian detective they are just the job.

It is difficult to give an informed opinion without first seeing the montrose doublet. My montrose is in black with silver buttons so I went out and got these

I found them on ebay a while ago.
Now as for the shoes you have I don't think they would work, to my eye anyway they are too high up to be considered. I would suggest finding something like the shoes I've shown and changing out the buckles for brass that would match the buttons of the doublet.

I've got to vote with your wife and friend. The heel is VERY tall, and the faux-spat thing really pushes the shoe up to high to be formal, but not high enough to be an actual spat.
It seems like a miss in every direction. Much better with trousers.

The rabble has spoken, and since I was borderline on whether or not these would work with the kilt and doublet anyway; I shall continue shopping. Thanks for the input.
