There are some small tripods that will fit in your sporran, you can usally find them in camera shops or try ebay.. and you can also just set it up on a rock , table or post as I have done in the first photo you see here.
Thanks for that, JohnAllen. I do have a smaller, but ancient and heavy, tripod such as you mention, and these are fine for unpopulated areas where you can wander off and safely leave tripod and camera to do their job. However, I was thinking more of photo-taking in really busy areas, such as on the street or at crowded events. Asking a stranger to take your photo can work but, in my experience, they don't know the viewfinder from the lens and result in legs or heads being out of the frame!!!
The two photos I have recently posted in my gallery were taken by a friend who fully understands what a camera actually is.
Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I will invest in a small, modern tripod, but it won't get much use.
