Sporran and Vendor review: Celtique Creations

For a while now, I've wanted a Rob Roy style sporran, made from both black and brown leather. I have two Buzz Kidder sporrans for wearing around most of the time and they're solid gear. I have a relatively inexpensive Hunting sporran for dressy stuff. I also have a pretty cheap knockoff semi-dress sporran that I used to wear for dressy stuff, but I've just gotten to the point where I don't like it much. Anyway, that's my collection. I wanted a Rob Roy style sporran to wear both just around work or wherever, and also to go with my "Highlander" Ren Faire-type costume. Having it in both black and brown leather allows it to be worn with other items in either black or brown.

I looked at a number of vendors and actually corresponded with Wyvern leatherworks a while ago, but the project changed a bit since then. I came across Celtique Creations http://www.celtiquecreations.com/ whilst browing online and immediately liked their take on the Rob Roy design. The price was reasonable and I contacted them to ask about a custom sporran. I wanted a simple piece in brown and black. The emphasis now is on "simple"....my tastes run to the simple, I'm not a "blingy" kind of guy.

I have nothing but high praise to heap on Cathy at Celtique Creations. Correpondance was quick and friendly. They sent along pictures of the leather pieces before sewing it up to make sure that the color combination was right. I exchanged a couple of e-mails with them about the color and style of the lacing as well as the bone closure. They even asked me about what color of rivets I'd like! I was told upfront that I might have to wait a couple of months for my sporran, as the maker was in the hospital at the time. In fact, the sporran was delivered well ahead of schedule. Two thumbs up to Celtique Creations for customer service and communication!

I've now worn the sporran 4x and have some thoughts. I like the Roby Roy style as it opens up quite wide so I can get my hand into the thing to root around and find what I'm looking for. The brown Buzz Kidder sporran that I have is a bit tight in that regard. Construction of the sporran is solid. The leatherwork is simple and nicely done. I'm going to have this one for a LONG time!

I woudn't hesitate to buy again from Celtique Creations and have encouraged them to advertise at X Marks! On to some pictures! You may have seen these first two in a previous thread.

Thanks for the review, Alan. It's always good to be able to add another reputable company to my list of sources.

Congratulations on picking up a nice looking sporran, Alan.
Sounds like you picked a good company. I'll have to take a look at their website.
