I've never worn anything other than a kilt to church for years either in Scotland or England. The Scottish minister still mentions it when we occasionally meet (neither of us is in the same place now, but we keep in touch), but I guess I was the only kilted person he encountered at his church in Old Kilpatrick. No one comments on the kilt in England, just saying it is nice to see me. They obviously remember that the last time they saw a kilt was on one of my previous once or twice annual visits; so it definitely gets noted.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
