The Easiest Kilt You Will Ever Make?!?!?

I've been looking for kilt patterns and found this site, but I don't see that anyone here has tried it. Has anyone used these instructions for making their own kilt? If so, what do you think about it? Is it really easier than something like the X-Kilt? Thanks...

For some reason I don't trust it. I don't even know where you can get materials to make a canvas kilt for "about $25." Smells fishy to me. Still I will be following this thread with great interest. It may be worth $5 just to see what it's all about.

I was a bit concerned that it's a "gotta pay to see how it's done" not even a teaser snippet of the directions to whet ones creative appetite.

I downloaded the x-kilt instructions for free and it's a great and proven method, I'm just leery to pay for a similar bit of instruction.

They're using stolen photos, which automatically makes them scumbags.

As far as their pattern and whether it's worth 5 bucks, I dunno. The x kilt manual that Alan H wrote is really exceptional, and includes the most amazing technical support you could ask for, and by that I mean this forum. I seriously doubt this $5 set of instructions would come anywhere close to the x kilt manual.

As far as materials clocking in at 25-30 bucks, that's not too far off the mark. Canvas at Joann is something like $10.99 a yard at regular price, and they always have coupons or the stuff is on sale. I bought two 6 yard pieces of double width, 9oz canvas at Fabric Depot last week. Very nice stuff, much higher quality than Joann, about $36 each with coupons. Figure another 10 bucks or so total for a spool of thread and a bit of velcro or a package of snaps.

Any takers on a bet that it borrows heavily from the XKilt manual? Now that I think of it, probably just a matter of time before somebody starting trying to sell that body of work as their own. . . happens all too often online.

That was my first thought as well. I'd be shocked if it wasn't a ripoff. They're happy to steal photos to sell their instruction manual so it's logical to assume that the manual itself is, at least, heavily borrowed.

I don't have an extra $5 around right now, but would somebody get one of these patterns so we can find out what type of scam this might be and review it ( or blow the lid off the scam ). It might be interesting to find out....

I bit. Curiosity has killed this cat many times. The written instructions aren't as clear as I'd like. The kilt made using these instructions isn't the X-Kilt. For five bucks you get 6 pdf pages. Go with the X-Kilt.

You absolutely must love the Easiest Kilt You Will Ever Make?!?!? OR ELSE!!!!!!! If you don't love it, Don't tell anyone, or you might find in your email one with the subject line "Thanks for Nothing" Which reads:

"Thanks for the negative review on X Marks the Scot. Did you even try to make a kilt with my instructions? If there was something unclear about them, you could have sent me your questions so I could have a chance to respond and clear up any issues.

"I'm a person just like you. I am not interested in ripping people off. I have refunded your money.

"I have read the treatise called "The X Kilt". I have also studied about six other guides to making kilts and I feel they all suffer from the same problem: way too much time is spent measuring, calculating, etc.

"You know the original great kilt was just folded and held up with a belt. THAT is how easy making a kilt should be."

My $5 was refunded, which is nice, but I hadn't even asked for it to be returned, nor had I even given it a thought. What's spent out of curiosity is spent out of curiosity, not spent with any other consideration but satisfaction of curiosity.
