i have a question on the ribbon/ties on the kilts that had them. were the sewn on? or was there and eyelet or something to loop it threw, to make it easy to replace it tears?

They were sewn on. Here's a picture of the ties on a kilt c1815. Note that the ribbons on the apron could also be tied.



And here's the inside view of one of the apron ties from a c1819 kilt.



This latter nicely shows the hand stitching. This ribbon could easily be unpicked and replaced if it wore/broke.
