Shooting/Breeks/Kilt Hose I Just Ordered On eBay

In just ordered a pair of these Merino Wool-blend hose from a UK seller (Newcastle Area) on eBay:

The price of these agrees with my sporran, and they also have them in Claret and Mustard. Perhaps even more so than with kilts and other Highland Wear accessories, my Cheap Bastard Gene/Bargain Nose REALLY kicks in with Kilt Hose, and I love the smell of these. Jump on them if you please, Brothers!

A bit new here, what makes these hunting socks? Is it the length or the weave, or what? It appears they are worn at knee level, is that right? They do look nice, I'll also be looking forward to a review.

The same firm, Cheviot for example, might make the same style of socks for shooting and for kiltwearing, but the shooting socks will often be longer, because they are sometimes worn over wellies.

So the very nice shooting socks I wear need to have an extra fold done at the top for them to look right.

There's a seam where the body of the sock meets the cuff part, hidden under the cuff when worn, and I suppose I could take my socks apart, trim off the extra length, and re-sew them, but I haven't bothered.

Here they are

Without the extra fold the cuff would be twice as long as you see there, only half the cuff having the pattern.

They just arrived today. Very, Very Good Quality--absolutely comparable to House Of Cheviot (which may very well be who actually makes them). The brand name is Hunter (as in Hunter Boot Ltd of Edinburgh, established in 1856, and which apparently is THE Brand of Wellies to own). They are 49% Merino Wool, 49% Acrylic, 2% Nylon. Slightly generous fit (on me anyway), as is usually the case with breeks/shooting hose, in the Large size, but not too much. I am truly delighted with these--a fairly stupendous value, which I assume must be some sort of end-of-season special offer--and I'm already thinking about ordering a pair in Burgundy/Claret. I will post photos soon, in either my Honour Of Scotland or dark brown Utility Kilt. Cheers!
