The first time I saw kilts in a movie was when I was real little and the movie was "Gunga Din".
The first kilt I saw in person was 1969 on the bus at Circle B scout ranch in California as we were waiting to come home from a junior leader training course. One of the Assistant Scout Masters got on the bus to say goodby and he was wearing a Royal Stewart kilt and kit with his Scout shirt! Most of us thought this was pretty cool, but one sceptic asked "why the kilt?" He explained that he had attended the last World Jamboree and had traded one of his uniforms for the kilt and sporran with a Scottish scout and he liked wearing it and that he even wore it to class at college. That brought a collective disbelief, but he explained that he attended the University of California at Berkeley, and with all the hippies and other counter culture types on campus nobody even noticed.
I've tried to follow that attitude!
