'Nice Skirt'
After so many years of kilt wearing I cannot get excited if mine is called a skirt-if they are being rude why bother? Such people are best ignored.
However many are genuine in their appreciation of seeing a man in a kilt-so in fact despite the wrong words it is a plus for kilt wearing. Not to mention a plus for ones own appearance. Too that same appreciation is a slight step forward for every man who wears a kilt.
Too a smile and a thanks will often lead to a chat and the chance to mention that it is in fact a kilt: so one moves on leaving another supporter.

I get the "nice skirt" comment sometimes. Mostly from women, it seems. I usually reply, "nice pants" because they are usually wearing pants.
The one time I can remember getting the "nice skirt" comment from a woman in a skirt, I replied, "I like yours too, but it would look silly on me." That, and a nice smile. She took another look at my khaki workman's UK, nodded and smiled back.

Your going to have to post that one Graham. My Kiltaphobic friend is a quilter so I need to sent this to her.

I usually just smile and say thanks, tends to throw people off.
