I don't have a Sport Kilt hiker, but I do have some Supplex fabric that's very similar in weight that I've been meaning to make a kilt with. It's very light, so I think it's fair to say that a stiff wind will definitely pick the aprons up. For the kind of use you're talking about I don't think it'd be too light at all, provided you're not expecting it to swish like a big yardage wool kilt.

image.jpgMy son ran this year, kilted, in the local Shamrock Run. He had a Sport Kilt, and as you can see was fairly excited at completing the 15k in good time....

If you are running to say you ran in a kilt, any kilt would do. If you are running for distance or speed or comfort, I think one would want to minimize the weight and bulk of the attire (adjusted for the weather.) The SportKilt Hiking Kilt is the one most like light weight running shorts.

I've never seen running kilts.com before, but that looks like a skirt. Thanks though.
I may just give SportKilt a shot. Wavering between the hiking for the weight and the regular for the tartan. I'll probably stew on this for a bit.

I have a Sportkilt kilt for running in. It's their everyday PV kilt. Of course it doesn't compare to a 16oz tank in the way it moves, but then again, I'm not doing a 1/2 marathon in strome weight tartan. Sportkilts are a good choice for the kilted runner. Lightweight, but they look good.

Flyrod,
Do you have any thoughts on the buckles or pockets? Do you have either on the kilt you run in? I was considering asking them to swap the leather and metal buckles for the nylon ones, to make it easier to wash, and to add pockets to hold things while I'm running. Thoughts?
