Looks like you did a great job at pleating , the red reveal shows up all across the back of the kilt up by simply raising a leg ... let alone the effect it will have while walking ... i.e. swish . Sweet !

I had no skill with a needle before the first one I made; I'd bet you could handle it with a little practice.

As for the reveal - I was nervous about that. Once I hit the 7th or 8th pleat I started to wonder whether I was putting the red too close to the edge of the pleat (it was just barely hidden by the pleat on top), but I think it turned out well as it doesn't show at all when standing still.

It's hard to tell in this lighting and with this pleating, but there's an equal amount of dark blue and black in those large blocks of the tartan (think your son's kilt in darker colors). They're almost indistinguishable in interior lighting, and since this one's pleating to the black, it's very black-heavy.
