I think it'll be awesome. We'll want photographic evidence, of course.

I can't wait to post a photo here. You're all the only people who will truly appreciate how awful it is.
Or how awesome.

I vote for making it awesome. There are lots of examples of outfits with a lot of tartan that look good and Black Watch is reasonably subtle. There's no reason you need to try to make it look awful...
If it were me and if I had the kit, I'd go for a Black Watch kilt, vest/waistcoat, and jacket. Black and green diced hose would be a nice touch if you have them, but black would be fine. Out of good taste and trying not to overdo it, I'd probably not wear a Black Watch shirt, but rather pick a solid colour in either navy, black, or green. Given the theme of the event, the tie could go either way... I would choose depending on how much other Black Watch I was already wearing

I saw a Black Watch pocket square the other day. Just something else for you to think of.

Well, if the theme is "pick a color" and your color is black watch, I think there's no option but to make sure everything is black watch in color.
I've never seen a BW glengarry either... but if everything is supposed to be the same color (or a shade of the same color) I think a black glengarry with BW ribbon would be cheating - I'd much rather see the whole thing pulled off in black watch!
Of course, this is all in the spirit of - as you said - us being able to truly appreciate how awfu-some, awesome... this will be

If you want to spend money the possibilities are endless. You could get a blackwatch tartan Argyll jacket, tartan or diced hose, tartan flashes, a plaid. There are even sporrans with tartan on them so you could have a blackwatch tartan sporran.
I think you can purchase most things in blackwatch. If the party is indoors I wouldn't spend money on a hat.
I think a head to toe tartan thread would be enjoyable. Everyone could post atrocious head to toe tartan outfits!

I'm into "matchy matchy"
As a card carrying member of clan Gregor (and there is a posted photo of my (our) clan chief Sir Malcolm MacGregor MacGregor in post #7), I'll say that I probably have a "license" to be "drowning in tartan"...LOL.. AND have on occasion chosen to do so.
Personally, I think that with the right tartan (almost any tartan) "the look" can be sharp. To this end, I have a Clan Gregor black and red kit (also know to many as Rob Roy tartan) , as well as a lovely hand made bias cut waist coat of the same material/ tartan (made for me by Mathew Newsom) and matching red and black diced hose.
I've included a photo of this outfit, that I like to wear, to "appropriate venues and events...... I know it's not a look for every one , but it's (apparently) "a look for me".
I've enjoyed making a few Sporrans lately too, and this skunk sporran is my latest creation. To date I've made about 10 Skunk sporrans in varying styles for friends and such. My latest sporrans are being made out of black mink, in what I'll call the "Jacobite" style. Here's a few photos of my latest sporran. It's the one that I'm wearing with my "tipple tartan" outfit..LOL.

Very smart indeed, Stan. The black jacket offsets the waistcoat excellently, and the tartan on the bias makes it even smarter. The look is completed with the skunk sporran (black and white, for a change) and the diced hose.
Incidentally I have a soft spot for Rob Roy, because my Scottish great-grandfather’s mother was a MacGregor.
Regards,
Mike
