I'm gonna blow your "matchy matchy" minds!

So a good friend is turning 40 years old and decided to have a party with the theme "Monochromatic." No black - it's not a funeral, it's rainbow-y happy birthday and everyone has to choose a color and wear it from head to toe.

I thought about a blue suit with blue socks, a blue shirt, and a blue tie - yawn. A tan suit with tan socks, a tan shirt and a tan tie - double yawn.

Then I texted my wife an idea: "What if my color was tartan and I wore a kilt. I could probably do Black Watch head to toe."

She responded, "Great idea." That's why I love her.

So, after you all clean up the mess from your heads exploding, post your ideas for an atrocious all plaid tartan outfit. I'm going to stick with Black Watch because it's available on short notice, and since I have a Black Watch kilt.

    So far I've got:

    Kilt
    Shirt
    Vest/Waist coat
    Tie
    Black hose with green flashes
    Black Ghillie Broghes

Not sure about a hat. I can easily get a flat cap in Black Watch, but would prefer a Glengarry. I haven't seen any that would fit my big head. I have a top hat and could add a ribbon of Black Watch to that.

Any ideas or vomit emoticons are welcomed!

I think it'll be awesome. We'll want photographic evidence, of course.

I can't wait to post a photo here. You're all the only people who will truly appreciate how awful it is.

    Or how awesome.

I vote for making it awesome. There are lots of examples of outfits with a lot of tartan that look good and Black Watch is reasonably subtle. There's no reason you need to try to make it look awful...

If it were me and if I had the kit, I'd go for a Black Watch kilt, vest/waistcoat, and jacket. Black and green diced hose would be a nice touch if you have them, but black would be fine. Out of good taste and trying not to overdo it, I'd probably not wear a Black Watch shirt, but rather pick a solid colour in either navy, black, or green. Given the theme of the event, the tie could go either way... I would choose depending on how much other Black Watch I was already wearing

I saw a Black Watch pocket square the other day. Just something else for you to think of.

Well, if the theme is "pick a color" and your color is black watch, I think there's no option but to make sure everything is black watch in color.

I've never seen a BW glengarry either... but if everything is supposed to be the same color (or a shade of the same color) I think a black glengarry with BW ribbon would be cheating - I'd much rather see the whole thing pulled off in black watch!

Of course, this is all in the spirit of - as you said - us being able to truly appreciate how awfu-some, awesome... this will be

Here's a few images of people wearing tons of tartan and looking awesome. The first two are Xmarkers and the second two are a little more famous...
