Brittany walking tartan
A quick looksee revealed to me that the Brittany Walking Tartan is a restricted tartan. What are the details? Have to get yardage from a specific vendor? Get permission to have it woven?
Thanks,

Cannot find any mention of it being restricted in the tartan register http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...s.aspx?ref=365

Interesting. Scotweb has it restricted.

I saw that also. I have seen a few tartans on the Scotweb site shown as restricted but no mention is made on the Tartans register site of that restriction. I don't know if any of the mills weave the tartan as a stock one, so it may need to be done as a custom weave. A email to Dr Nick Fiddes of Scotweb will soon sort the matter out though. Cheers

Restricted Tartan? I can't wait to find out any details on what that curtails. My imaginations are: Family owned and only by personal invitation?, limited weaving (quantity) by mill?, funds an undesirable social standard?, etc. Its maddening not knowing.

At least one of our members (English Bloke) has a kilt in that tartan that he is rightfully proud of. I am fairly sure it is not restricted.

causes blindness or seizures ... ;-)
not referring to the Brittany Walking tartan, of course. That one's quite handsome.

The suggestion to contact Nick Fiddes is a good one. But it might also be worth contacting Richard Duclos. I think I saw an address for him at the SRT at one stage, but it is not on the pages for Brittany National or Brittany Walking. I suspect he would be the one to give the nod. Perhaps Nick would make contact with him, or provide his address.
There are several other Breton tartans, including a range with the prefix Bro-. They were designed by Kirsty Anderson of (if I recall correctly) the House of Edgar, but the designs were strictly supervised by Richard Duclos and they are marketed through his company, Fordiam, in Paris.
A Google search for Fordiam initially came up with several punts for a company working in concrete (beton), but then I came across this entry: Fordiam La Maison du Kilt, 12 Rue du Maine, 75014 Paris, France.
If you can write in French (I cannot) a letter or an e-mail to him would probably get your best results.
I finally ran down his shop’s website at this address: http://www.tartanbreton.com/francais/cgv.htm
It’s quite impressive at first sight.
Regards,
Mike
