Our Traditional model TYPICALLY uses 7 to 9 (or more) yards, depending on the Pattern Repeat and the waist/hip size of the individual. With a waist size of 47 or 48, I can tell you that you'd DEFINITELY fall in the 8 yard "or so" category. Once I do the math (I need the exact measurements and the tartan choice), I can tell you how many yards are going to be in your kilt before I make it.
As an FYI, our Philabeg model usually has between 4 to 6 yards (give or take)... the pleats are about 1.25 to 1.5 inch wide.
I hope this answers your questions, JerMc! If you have any more, feel free to reply or call me at the shop!

Thank you, Rocky, for your quick reply. That answered exactly what I wanted to know. Your company is definitely on my short list for my next kilt.
