BTW full ball buttons do make an appearance in The Highlanders Of Scotland, on the waistcoat and jacket of Donald MacNaghton's tartan outfit (matching kilt, plaid, jacket, and waistcoat).

Due to how the jacket is hanging open, the buttons can be seen both from the top and fully from the side, making clear that they are full spheres, and held on with a shank.

There are a couple of other waistcoats which appear to have ball buttons, but it's inconclusive because the buttons are not seen side-on.
