I look forward to seeing it! My next project is likely to be a copy of the sporran shown in this video:

I may do something different with the design of the flap cutout decoration (a different pattern), add fringe to the tassels, and dye it more of a British Tan/Med Brown color.

That will be pretty cool I'm sure. I think that is like the one Lamar Britt did a while back. Beautiful job! On that last one I did, I flipped the back panel on the flap so the suede side is out and then glued the braid work down on top to give more contrast to the design. Sort of a flat verses shiny finish. Yours sounds like a terrific project.

Totally agree with Mike. If you are hand stitching, saddle stitch is the only way to go. I use a stitching pony or a carpenter's vice with leather padded jaws.

Thanks. Do you have any pictures of a stitching pony? I've seen one of those.

Bluescelt,
That is one of the better professional models, complete with seat and foot operated tensioner. Very nice.

That sporran is gorgeous! I like the contrast in leathers too.
To me your sporran is a unique artistic creation and doesn't resemble Victorian sporrans, much closer to Georgian (George V) ones.
Here's the most exhaustive look a Victorian sporran styles I know of

Here in the 1930s the small pocket-shaped sporrans have firmly replaced the long hair sporrans of the Victorian age

Thank you for all this great research guys. You are correct and I do create as I go along on these projects. So in that respect they are not meant to be anything more than an attempt to capture
a look I like. Those stitching ponys are beautiful works in themselves. Kind of reminds me of an artist sketching mule with a clamping device attached. Thank you all again for your post. They are always very helpful.
