Off topic a little, but when I was in the navy, the ship I was assigned to was part of the north atlantic fleet. In the combat info center, all of the bulkheads are painted black. However, during the very cold north atlantic winters, the rivets that that went through the bulkheads were always coated with white frost. In the darkened CIC, it looked like stars. I would imagine that the Utilikilts might look the same in extremely cold weather.
