    > Did you ever notice that "Objects in Space" gets no respect? Why is that?

Not true in my case at least. Allen only asked for one choice, but had there been a second then "Objects in Space" would have been mine. I guess there is something that appeals to me in a tightly crafted tale set in a minimal space. Both "Out of Gas" and "Objects in Space" are like stage plays. There's basically just the one set (Serenity herself, although a few scenes are set just outside the ship), and the characters' personalities and interactions are all you have to tell the story. It's surprisingly difficult to do well.

Also, with "Objects in Space" I see in Jubal Early an early (ha!) version of what was to become Chiwetel Ejiofor's "Operative" character in the movie. They are both very skilled, resourceful and controlled, with Jubal being just a bit less mentally disciplined. I think "bad guys" who are intelligent and competent are more interesting (and dangerous) than what is usually thrown at the heroes in most stories.

I have all the episodes, as well as Serenity. I love the camera work in the opening sequence of Serenity, beginning with the moment the "primary buffer panel" flies off the nose of the ship during descent through the atmosphere, and the camera shot begins with Mal, inside the bridge of the Serenity. For the next several minutes we tour the entire ship, and meet all the crew, with one... long... unbroken... sequence, done as one "take", as the camera follows Mal through the ship. An impressive piece of camera work.

Wash: "This landing is gonna get pretty interesting."
    Mal: "Define 'interesting'."
Wash: "Oh God, oh God. We're all gonna die."

Clarified elsewhere in the movie with the quote, "She's disturbing my calm."

My own favorite quote was from Mal, spoken to Jane: "Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."
'A damned ill-conditioned sort of an ape. It had a can of ale at every pot-house on the road, and is reeling drunk. "

Same, except that my reason is mainly because of the exchange between Mal and Jayne re: Vera. Cracks me up every time.

Love them all. Joss et al. are crafty wise for sure. Like when Mrs. Reynolds comes back and they pull the heist, Mal ends up naked and we think he's been bamboozled 'cause he's sittin' naked in the desert...but nope!

    Favourite line:
Opening of Serenity (the movie) and everyone gets back safe to the ship, the doctor asks River 'are you ok'? and she says, totally deadpan, 'I ate a bug'.

    Favorite episode: Shindig.

    Specifically for the line:

Mal: Mercy is the mark of a great man. [stabs Atherton] Guess I'm just a good man. [stabs Atherton again] Well, I'm all right.

I've even wrote a Filk song (to the tune of Godsmack's Serenity...) although I have to say "Reavers Malcolm Reavers" is probably my favorite FF/Serenity filk song. (That was is also because of something which happened at DragonCon...)

    Episode 1 serenity

I like the back story for the characters. How they formed the crew, how the ship was found, the emotional toll that the war took on Malcolm causing him to reject his faith in god and country and society. The character has very deep scars. It sets the stage for the rest of the shows.
