Any weavers of tartan on here?

I've been weaving for many years and have dabbled with weaving tartan a wee bit. About to embark upon the grandaddy of all. It's time to let the wool be warped and weave away. Looking to find others who have or will be doing the same. My son can't wear what isn't made.

Welcome Loomladi. l've been a tartan weaver for some 35 years although I haven't woven much for a while as I spend much more time researching old pieces. I1f you are interested in historical techniques then you will find a number of the articles here of interest.

This thread might be more appropriate in the General section rather than the Kilt one. Mods?

Yes; moving to General. A re-direct will linger behind for a while. Loomyladi, you may get a better response there.

I get a 404-not found on your link. Ah fishing around it appears to be missing the .htm at the end. Here's the link working.

Well spotted. That's what comes of trying to do things on a tablet whilst waiting for the Red Eye. Sorted now.

Welcome, Loomyladi. I am also a novice tartan weaver and will soon be weaving some wool tartan.

Fegheadair's research site has proven very valuable. I must order some of his books soon.

    Welcome, Loomyladi,

I am not a weaver of anything, but I greatly admire those talented individuals who can. I am sure you will find all of the advice you seek and the welcome of all the friends you will meet here.

Thanks Tom. I love my craft, I've always wanted to sing, but it's not to be so I make a different kind of music at my loom.
