Hose color with MacKenzie modern

Tim Little, thanks for the link to the hose company. I believe that I will be ordering some new ones from there. As far as matching and all that, I tend to go with various shades of the same color. I am not an artist, so I am never sure what goes with what. Just the way I survive the world of fashion.

Good advice has been given above and I would add yellow hose to the list. I think many here are tending to over-think this colour matching/co-ordinating caper. Steve is quite right to suggest that the tartan of the kilt is the centre piece, but this idea of matching/co-ordinating any other part of ones clothing (apart from both hose should match) just strikes me as making hard work of it all. Plain SOFT coloured, or modest striped, or modest tattersall patterned shirts will do their job whilst not taking the observer's eye away from the tartan kilt.

when I wear it, I think that bottle green is the best match (even better than lovat green) with Mackenzie flashes

I don't really stick too much to any one mind set in terms of hose color selection. Most of the time it's more of a matter of what mood I'm in. Today I am wearing a freedom tartan kilt with a white shirt, sage green tie, a navy blue jacket with lighter blue accents, and bottle green hose with white flashes. However, I also like black shirts, gold ties, red hose, and black flashes with the same kilt. Many start with more conservative color choices and then branch out. I started with greys and navy blue and just recently got into brighter hose. Just remember that the rules of non-kilted dress rarely apply to highland attire. At least that's what I've come to find.

I actually find that the "rules" of fashion (or at least fashion sense) apply equally whether kilted or not.

I'm color blind so I just grab a pair and roll with em as well, many people ask endless questions about what it's like to be color blind, a perfect example is isle of skye tartan, I had no idea there was purple in it... My wife told me a few weeks ago. Who knew????

I'm sure you come up with some interesting combinations, however!

I've been wearing Lovat green and I like the look. I recently bought a pair in charcoal that go quite well, too. I have yet to find any in claret for less than 50 bucks, though. I find that a bit strange. I really would like that color but the cheapskate in me can't bear the thought of that kind of coin for a pair of socks.
