To update how my decision went, my Christmas consisted of a USA Kilts Casual model in the Farquharson tartan. The family was told during the holiday before it was ordered, they were initially laughing it off until some one explained whose tartan I would be wearing and family history was discussed. Have only worn it once so far, but there is truly an odd pride in having a set of colored stripes associated with yourself. I'm well aware it's far from an ancient practice, but the story of having it handed down as it was is something I'll enjoy telling when heritage is mentioned. I've since caught myself looking at some small trinkets with the Clan crest, particularly a simple pewter necklace, but I'll restrain myself and be happy with the colors.

As it should be. You have a family kinship you wanted to display. Good for you young man (as I'm an old one now I can say that).
Wear it properly and with pride and you'll never be wrong.
