Only cruised once but I didn't restrict my kilt wearing to the formal evenings.

Apparently some cruise lines don't like you taking a sgian dubh and those that allow it will insist upon the purser keeping it until you need it for formal wear. Best to check before you travel.

I wore a kilt for formal and semi-formal night on our cruise to Bermuda. Both times with a black argyll but with a vest and bow tie for formal night and with a dress belt and regular tie for the semi-formal nights, giving me two looks with a minimal change of accessories. I didn't take a skean dhu and didn't feel undressed without it.

I've only seen a few kilts on cruises, but they always get favorable comments from both passengers and crew, as do military personnel in uniform. On my cruise the food and beverage officer was from Glasgow and he gave me a complimentary wee dram.

I wore mine - it was very well received and I did not feel out of place at all.

quick note: I have since thrown away the cream hose for something a bit more colorful.

I got a pair of white hose too. I think I will get another pair or two with a different color.

I wore mine, I will try to post a pic later when I am on a different computer.

Of course I was on the Oasis, one of two ships with a staff piper, but I was the only kilted one at formal nights. There was one full time kilt wearer but he was there for a poker tournament and rarely came upstairs.
