Balmoral ribbons and "toupee"

To answer all, the word "toupee" was the best that memory would let me rationalize
Don't want to re-design the balmoral, just to understand it better.
If I ask a question I'd better be able to take all answers, no harm done.
I did unsew the ribbons.

I am glad you have chosen to remove the ribbons of your balmoral aonghas. There is just as much discussion on Glengarries as you have seen here.
I have to include the US Army Garrison Cap worn by Elvis Presley in the 1950's to compare the types of available caps (with and without a toorie) to demonstrate my point.
I hope you are happy with snipping off the ribbon of your balmoral. No more nagging of the nape for you.

It does make we wonder about where that military style of hat came from, long worn in many armies.

EDIT: did a tiny bit of research, found that the French military has been using a hat called calot since Napoleonic times, it's evolved smaller and smaller from the 18th century Grenadier hat, here's one of many variants



The Glengarry is structurally different, being knit like a Balmoral (it's really only a Balmoral that's been 'blocked').
