Can't wait to get my box pleat!

Well, it's been a long "jones", but my kilt finally bubbled up to the top of Matt Newsome's queue, and he is getting my 5-yard box pleat finished up now. I ought to have it shortly. It's the symetrical Buchanan "Old Sett" tartan, in ancient colors, made from 16 oz Locharron Strome. It will compliment my collection of Buchanan variants nicely. I look forward to trying it on, when it arrives!

Matt was kind enough to snap this photo of the kilt in progress, and it looks great.

With this one soon out of the pipeline, I can start thinking about my Scottish Wildcat.

I believe I recently saw that picture on Facebook. Great looking tartan! I'm hoping mine is going to bubble to the top of Matt's pile soon. It's been a loooong Jones for me as well! It will be my 2nd Newsome kilt, so I know it's well worth the wait. He is an artist.

Looks great! I'm hoping my next will be a box kilt in Buchannan Old Sett -- that said, I'm leaning towards the "muted" colors rather than the "ancient." That said, I think I would need a custom weave to do it in the heavy weight that Matt prefers to work with. I've seen samples in medium weight and really like it though.

I take it your tartan is coming from Lochcarron? I look forward to pics when its done!

Yes, the fabric is Locharron. It is their 16 oz Strome, though. Not their lighter weight stuff.

I had Matt send me swatches of both the Ancient and the Weathered, as I was thinking one might be too "pink" for my tastes. But what struck me most (and sealed the choice between the two) was that the weathered was almost devoid of green. Matt just happened to post this photo below, today, on Facebook. It seems that right after he finished my ancient, he was beginning a weathered, and posted samples side by side.

My ancient colors are on the left, and the weathered sample, is on the right.

Love the colours of the Ancient version - so mellow.

Wow! I can see what you mean by both the pink tone and the lack of green. Its easy to overlook the green in Buchanan sets -- but it serves a role as a baseline/foundation for the flights of fancy of the other colors, eh?

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the finished garment!
