Accessories when wearing a kilt.

I really like that Scott. I would enjoy something like that in a cross- body bag, which is what I assume you mean by vertical? That is the nice thing with a sporran is that it is "hands free". Which we miss with a handbag or shoulder bag. It's a nuisance .

Yep, we stick a strap on them which is long enough to go across to the opposite shoulder, but has a buckle to shorten it if she wants to wear it on the same shoulder as the bag. The bag shown actually has a strap that started life as a guitar strap. It was so narrow that it made a pretty lousy guitar strap, but it works fine for something lighter. It saved me the trouble of having to cut one out myself. I'm old enough that I play sitting down most of the time these days anyway.

Sure, I wear a men's sporran. Why not? Mine is "inherited" from my former partner (who is still a dear and loved friend though we're no longer romantically involved and he lives in another state. He is half-Scottish, but gave up kilt-wearing after the one time it was obligatory for him to do so for a cousin's wedding, so he gave me the accessories).

I hate carrying purses, and try to avoid doing so if I can (I really love cargo pants... why yes, I would love to have a Utilitkilt!)

(And yes, I also wear a sgian dubh. And sometimes kilt pin, also a "hand-me-down." Not often, though-- since I can't wear it to dance, I'd be constantly taking it on and off and I don't imagine that's good for the kilt. We're not allowed to wear kilt pins on our band kilts-- though I've pinned it to the inside apron of mine so I can still wear it. Footwear ranges from black lace-up Keens, to combat boots, to my band shoes.)

This is the only other one she has at the moment (the poor girl ). It's one of the early molded ones. I found this size maybe a bit big for a regular sporran and subsequently built a slightly smaller mold, but it makes a pretty decent small purse if outfitted with a shoulder strap system instead of a typical sporran hanger. I'm brainstorming one, non-molded but with this sort of shape, that would have a more typical leather sidewall that forms a rolled top edge and then have a tartan front side. It wouldn't really be aimed at being something to wear with other tartan clothing, but more a way to flash a bit of tartan when worn with jeans or other street clothes.

Many years ago due to some upper body issues I started using a bum/fanny pack as my daily purse. I am also a very utilitarian type of woman and I wear this as my daily "purse", I can wear it as a shoulder bag or as a fanny bag. It also works very well with my Stumptown kilt.

Cross-body strap. The skirt was Marite's weekend project and the first garment made from the new black version of our tartan. Next she wants to make a longer one with some pleats. I also have a hunk of charcoal herringbone Cheviot tweed coming and she wants to make herself something similar to a tweed Argyll jacket.
