Is smoking bad for the health of the Kilt.
Hi all, I'm a cigarette smoker (make my own actually) I know, I know its really bad for me, but when I'm in my highland wear Kilt/Argyll etc, I don't smoke, burning holes/smell on my clothing etc, so I've come up with this cunning plan, and that is to wear my Kilt more often, and hopefully I should stop smoking eventually, well at least cut down on the amount I smoke, good plan or not Guys and Girls. Any plan to help you stop is a good plan. Good Luck!
Studies have shown that women who gain a few pounds live longer than men who mention it.

Any plan is better than no plan, but my strong advice is to quit altogether and do it now. The sooner you quit the longer you will live and the healthier the rest of your life will be. The alternative is not a pretty picture. Just do it!

I echo what Dughlas said, loudly.
I quit ten years ago. Hardly a day goes by (still) that I don't marvel at the difference it made.

I do not smoke; however, there are several in the rabble who enjoy smoking from pipes. Perhaps you might consider that as opposed to cigarettes.
Anyway, here is a thread from a few years back: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...69/index2.html

That sounds very sensible. Good luck with it. Let us know when you're 100% kilted and 0% smoker.

I think it is extremely good if kilt wearing could even make you stop smoking. Because smoking will of course eventually damage your kilt.

My best advice if you want to get into smoking pipes and cigars, which I do partake of, is to quit cigarettes for at the very least six months but preferably a year before you take up the pipe or cigar. There is so much flavor and nuance in the different tobaccos used that you simply wont be able to notice after smoking cigarettes for so long. I quit smoking cigarettes about 12 years ago and I smoke only a couple cigars a week these days. The difference in my cigars from when I smoked cigarettes to after I quit was amazing.

Thanks Blueline72, I think that is very good advice, I'm still trying to quit, but as my wife smokes cigarettes its very difficult, so far I've gone a week then I started again, then another week without cigarettes, and started again, so its an on going battle for me but I am determined to stop. Hey ya Finistere, wouldn't worry about it too much. Smoking may not be the best but eating a bacon sandwich will kill you as well. . Apparently. Gave up 3 years ago after smoking 60 a day. Just stop if you wanted to.. You are still in the fifth of the population that still smokes. Lol. Maybe in France a Third. . Love your kilt.
