The proper name for this material is Commando Cloth,
the weave is the same as twill.
It's an inexpensive alternative to velour, used for studio backdrops and stage masking, also known as duvetyne or velourette. 100% cotton fabric with a light absorbing napped surface. Comes in 54" bolts from 12oz to 18oz. per yard.
Being my first kilt I desided to use this because,
1. Eight yards tipped the scale at 9 pounds.
2. Has a good look and feel and,
3. 8yds was $40.00.
