For a long time I believed a kilt wasn't "authentic" unless it was a clan tartan. I unfortunately dismissed such things as ethnic/country tartans as jealousy of the Scots! Fortunately, I have been set straight. I'd love to own a kilt in the Jewish tartan or Gordon, as, while a clan tartan, it has a close association with the Scottish Jewish community.

A caution on the Gordon tartan: there are some conflicting opinions on its relationship to the regional Jewish community. Do some searching here on XMarks to see the conflicting opinions. If I remember correctly, the frequently repeated assumption that Jews were automatically welcomed into the clan had more to do with a convergence of regionality than history.

Use the XMarks "search" function with the words "Gordon" and "Jew".

    Some mention here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-tartan-55060/

    and particularly here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...ds-jews-77651/

Sorry for the hi-jack, but I think it does have something at least to do with the confusion discussion. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

San Francisco Bay Area piper Erik Leiken is usually seen wearing his Jewish tartan kilt, which is beautiful.

Too bad this photo of him is pretty washed out.

He also wears a Star Of David cap badge, which is hard to see here.

I have occasionally been asked, while kilted in stores, questions that would be directed towards employees. It was assumed that I worked in the store... wearing a kilt and Iron Maiden t shirt apparently says "Target Employee Of The Month."

Now, I'm confused but not surprised.

He's got the double whammy there!

I was always told to be proud of my Scottish ancestry, since it was Scots who invented copper wire -- two men from Glasgow were fighting over a penny.

That kilt is fantastic!!!! I would almost consider converting so I could wear that tartan.

back to the original post; I figure it is because of the guy on the ancestery.com commercial talking about being German, and then finding out he was Scottish.
Seeing it without paying attention, they are relating German at the beginning of the commercial with the kilt at the end. Just a guess.

    Clan RedBlack

While wearing my black kilt I have been asked which clan. Of course I always reply "Clan Black". I am currently watching the Grey Cup pre-game show and inserted this picture. For some reason it came in upside down. I decided to leave it as it somehow seemed appropriate. Btw I am cheering for Ottawa.
