I've tried wearing it on my back like a claymore and on my hip.
It looks good both ways but when I try to draw it my arms seem to be an inch too short to draw it all the way out, I am always caught stuck with my arm stretched out as far as it will go and the last inch of the sword still in the scabbard and all the while I have a ridiculous look on my face like "almost there! almost there!! GRRRRR".
I don't want to shorten the sword and I don't want to carry around the scabbard in my hand all the time. What can I do?
I don't think I'm too short because I'm 5''9'. Should I get a different back holster?
Edit: It's a 39 Inch Broadsword.
Try a baldric. With your off-hand you may push the sheath back and away as you draw the sword.

As has been suggested, perhaps you can find a nice way to hang the sword on the wall in your study.
Then who would defend the honor of poor damsels in distress when they are harassed by scoundrels, knaves, and common brigands?
How could I ever deny them the gift of being rescued by me?
If I did that then life would be like a rainstorm that never ends, the sky would be cloudy until the end of time, and the world would lose it's most beloved hero, Me ;)
Just think of the heartache. Bards would no longer sing songs of my deeds. Poets would no longer gain inspiration from the accounts of my adventures, artists would stop painting portraits of me for future generations to admire, people everywhere would have no-one to look up to and they would quit all their hopes and dreams and all because I threw in the towel and laid down my sword.
Is that a world any of you would want to live in?

Provided it didn't involve wearing a broadsword with a kilt?
Definitely.

Plus I like It.
Yes, I can quite understand that you like your sword. The rest is, with the greatest of respect, pure theatrical froth.

Although I am 8', 5-3/4" tall, my arms are comparitively short; like a T-Rex. My wife is always saying, "Stop being a dinosaur!", but what can I do. It's been a while since I have attended a Ren-Fest in period wear, but I never found an occasion to draw my claymore that would not get me in trouble.

I really just want to wear it to ren fairs and practice with it in the yard. Maybe one day I might try the historical combat stuff but that wouldn't be for many dollars to come.

Have you considered joining a chapter of the SCA? I don't know if they are active in Connecticut, but they seem to be everywhere.

That's what I was talking about, I might do that eventually but it would take me a long time to gather the money because they make you buy your own armor.
