I have two 16 oz kilts - 8 yard and 6 yard - and I don't find either one uncomfortable in the Summer. But I have not worn a kilt in the Summer when I'd be spending a lot of time outdoors, either.
Actually I just remembered. I did spend an entire day wandering around a Renn Faire in Pennsylvania, in Summer, in the 8 yard kilt, and I was just fine.

I'm looking forward to heading out there, I just need to carefully pack my kit... Bringing my Albannach PV casual kilt from Rocky, maybe a vest to go with a cotton button down, a tie perhaps...
I was going to bring a wool 5 yarder, a tweed jacket, waistcoat, etc but I'm thinking I will feel as comfortable as a tamale in a steamer wearing that much wool.

I would try to make it out as well provided I am not travelling for work.
I have two 16oz 8yd kilts I wear year round. I have worn one at the Grandfather Mountain Highland games where the temp gets into the 80's with no problem but I also have two casual kilts from Rocky as well though I have not worn one to a kilt night.
Look forward to you coming down and enjoying some southern hospitality.

So any ideas where to meet up? I will have a car while I am there, training lets out before 5 pm so I can do most anything past that though. I'm looking to get a feel for the area as it may be on the radar for a move in a few years...
Perhaps somewhere I can get a taste of the south?
(And a fine local beer as well)
Assuming the nights aren't scorching I may bring the wool kilt and assorted casual kit..
Having spent 15 years in Phoenix I'm no stranger to stupid hot weather.

I'm relatively new to Atlanta (4 years now), and I haven't really noticed an Atlanta cuisine. Did you have a certain style of food in mind for a taste of the south?

Not really, I'm just looking for good local vittles and good local beer, figured there has to be some sort of local style there right? when people come here to visit Chicago They want Chicago-style deep dish pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, and Chicago dogs....
Anything unique or interesting?

Well, there is always chicken and waffles at Gladys Knight's...but not sure they serve beer. If food is more important, then I would suggest something like above, The Varsity (fairly famous for hamburgers, etc), BBQ (pork) is definitely a southern thing and there are acouple of good local places. If beer is more important, then I would suggest one of @Wareyin and my favorites Taco Mac where you can get the local brews (we have quite a few in the area and most also have tours with sampling). The food is really good, it is better than your typical bar food and they have quite a few drafts on tap (depending on location, in the neighborhood of 70+). In addition, there are multiple locations around the Atlanta area and we can probably find one convenient to you and at least several of us locals. Looking forward to meeting!
