I appreciate Steve's desire to keep the thread on subject. That said, I do think some of the leeway of the types Colin mentioned are reasonable. Perhaps a photo caption would be appropriate if there is a non-highlander in the pic beside a Highlander or if the Scottish Highlander in the pic happens to be elsewhere for an event.

A pic of an Australian or Canadian on holiday to Scotland, for example, would not be useful for this thread unless they are standing beside a Highlander in Highland attire and point out who is who.

I'm looking to study their typical aesthetic choices so other kilt wearers unidentified as non Highlanders do indeed muddy the waters.

That's the reason I did a hard crop on my photo, I figured no one needed to see me.

In the spirit of the Nathan's Highlander theme clarification, I shall repost a picture which may be helpful to some , a very rare picture of me, a Highlander, accompanied by Mrs Jock who is also a Highlander, wearing the kilt in France. I am wearing exactly what I would wear to the same sort of event in Moffat(Scottish Borders), or Dumfries, or Inverness to a formal wedding(unless morning suits were specifically asked for), less the bonnet if it was not raining. Although due to lack of luggage space "we" did not pack my umbrella for the event! The picture was in fact taken in Avranches, Normandy, France.

All I can say, the quality is second to none. I can't remember if the sporran comes with a strap, if it does not then get one too! Take your time save your pennies and then bite the bullet! The wait will be worth every second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year--------------that it takes.

An interesting selection of pictures which show a common theme whilst also showing plainly that special and important extra, personal flair. It is always difficult , unwise even, to draw conclusions from a picture as few of us know the circumstance of the picture. However there is a common theme, thus far anyway.

Day wear is a common theme. Evening kilt attire is not unusual, but perhaps the events are not really the place for cameras? I certainly took the decision when I joined this website that I would not publish formal evening attire pictures of myself, or anyone else at the same event, for many reasons, some important and some not so much in hindsight.

So daywear is where we are, for now. In all the pictures so far there is a notable lack of white hose and ghillie brogues, a couple of pairs of light "tan" hose on show----perfectly THCD and as far as I can see only one pair of white hose and one pair of ghillie brogues both worn by the same person and not THCD. Does it matter? Not one bit. But----------

Baring in mind my comments about the dangers of drawing conclusions from pictures without knowing the circumstances, nevertheless one cannot escape the thought that the gentleman is probably wearing Kilt hire kit and furthermore, perhaps he is not from these shores.

I am asking this because prior to joining here I had no one but my kilt maker to get opinions from ... what would be THCD for formal black or white tie occasions ? My kilt is a custom Ferguson Modern tartan from MacGregor and macDuff

For a start, have a look at the pictures in the first thread in this section, you may find them helpful.
