I'm old enough to remember when women were struggling to be able to wear pants to work. I remember when there were "Firemen", "Policemen", and "Mailmen" because women couldn't get those jobs.

Much has changed for women, and not by accident. They have a strategy and they're working it.

I think the kiltmakers should form a consortium, like the egg producers, the beef and pork producers, the milk producers, Florida orange growers, and the California Cheese Board.

These groups each hired media consultants to put out a consistent and positive message about their products. In the case of eggs, milk, meat and cheese, their media campaigns have countered the public claims of health-food advocates.

Kilting should be an easy sell since it really is the healthy alternative.

It doesn't even have to be a multi-million-dollar television campaign to start out. It could start with a small ad in a couple of national newspapers. Then a quarter-page ad in a popular men's magazine, and continue building as the industry grows.

    Anyway, that's what I think.

    Got Kilts?

    Spongebob...

    Bubba:

Recently someone told me that they saw a "Spongebob Square-kilts" t-shirt at one of the games, with Spongebob in a kilt, but I haven't been able to locate one yet.

I think the kiltmakers should form a consortium, like the egg producers, the beef and pork producers, the milk producers, Florida orange growers, and the California Cheese Board.
Rigged: In Scotland, there is the Tartans Authority, which is sort of doing what you described, since the "movers and shakers" of the STA are mostly kiltmakers. I like your idea.

I know in one of the organisations I belong to, there is an "information center" that deals with questions from the public and responds to public venues such as books, movies, television shows, etc. that mention the organisation.

    Cheers,

    T.

    Some people just don't know

The father of my girl friends son came by the other evening to pick the boy up, I answer the door, we exchange greeting. He looked at my kilt, turned away, then looked back again so fast I thought his head would roll from his shoulders. After staring for a long moment I told him it's a kilt, he looked up smiled and said thats great its not what I thought it was.

He had heard the word "Kilt" and knew it to be Irish or Scottish or something like that, but had never seen one.

Which leads me to believe. At least some of the people that call a kilt a skirt, just don't know better.

I have been thinking that maybe it would be useful to have a 1 page PDF file to stick up on the outside of my cubical explaining what a kilt is for the people here that just don't know any better and might be afraid to ask.

Note that some of the best advertising is free. The idea of men in kilts as daily casual wear is still a bit of a novelty, and many TV & radio shows would love to interview a congenial kilt spokesperson for a little variety.

I just hope that no one ever shows up on the Jerry Springer show wearing a kilt. That isn't the type of publicity which we need.
