It's about a 13 oz cloth and reasonably soft. It's not a SUPER HARD tweed (like worsted wool tartan cloth), but it's not loosely woven like Lochcarron's tweeds. It kind of splits the difference. I agree 100% that it would make a SPECTACULAR carpet.
Richard - it's a tweed from MM and they do 2 other 'tartan tweeds', but they aren't official tartans. And as was discussed earlier, this is "Buchanan-esque" but not the precise correct Buchanan tartan.
