I bought (and am in the process of buying) a Braveheart tartan from them. They informed me the kilt I wanted had holes in it, so they are going to shorten another Braveheart kilt and send it to me. I think that's good service. They could have just sold me the one with the holes in. Very impressed with their service

Yes, Tartan4less was very responsive.
Heh, that was my experience just this morning. I saw this post, went surfing eBay and pulled the trigger on one of their ex-hire Isle of Skye. Shipping from the UK was pretty reasonable too.

Well, well, well.
Caveat Emptor
'Tis not an 8 yard kilt as advertised. I need to get the kilt hemmed, so I measured it to be able to negotiate a price with the tailor. It measures at 172 inches. About 4.8 yards.
I just sent an email that explained that they advertised an 8 yard kilt and it's not even quite a 5 yard kilt. I called him out for being dishonest.
I am not going to return or ask for a refund because frankly it still wasn't a bad deal. But now I know how Tartan4less does business.

Yea, I had a similar situation when I got a kilt from them, they sent me a super wrinkled pv by "mistake" but sent me a brand new wool one in its place after I complained. Shipping is super fast so I chalked it up as a one time thing, but I keep hearing more and more of these "mistakes".

I heard back from Craig at Tartan4less.
"Please accept our apologies. We did send a NEW Isle of Skye 5 yard kilt in your size as we were out of stock of the exhire 8 yard in your size by time we recd payment." The eBay listing still lists my size as being available in an 8 yard kilt.
Why was I not informed of this? He called it a "free upgrade". I call it "trying to fool me". An email ahead of time would have been appropriate and well-received.
I wrote back and thanked him for the explanation. I told him that I am not a solitary kilt wearer, but an active member of a worldwide community of kilt enthusiasts and we communicate often about our experiences with vendors.
I admonished him. "Please don't do this again."

So, other than the explanation, what's the resolution?

He offered to take a return. He also said that if I want to keep it, he'd refund shipping. I declined both. Honestly, an Isle of Skye was in my future anyway and so was a five yarder. I got this new kilt for less than I would have paid otherwise.
I didn't tell him that. I just accepted his apology, forgave and let it go.
I wouldn't blame anyone else for seeking other satisfaction. My particular situation just is what it is.
