I like that the sporran's black-background matches the color of the jacket, as well as the boots, in my opinion at least. The white tassels do stand out to me, but not necessarily in a good or a bad way. :-)

Waistcoat and Waistplate, Both / Fur, Targe, Embossed Leather
Actually, when I've worn a waistcoat and when I've worn a waistplate (my huge Don McKee celtic knot / saltire buckle), I've gotten comments from purists. For most events, I wear a rabbit fur sporran with a chrome plaque chain, an embroidered black polo shirt, a Lee River belt with Irish buckle or a kilt belt with a waistplate, colored hose, and black athletic shoes (for comfort). I have 3 leather sporrans: 1 targe, 1 embossed brown, and 1 plain dark brown (retired). I recommend against a plain leather sporran, tassels or no tassels, because they are too plain. Better to spend not much more money and get one that is embossed on the flap and on the body. Otherwise you're just wearing a pouch. Is a fur sporran too formal for daywear? Not in my experience. My only concern there is whether I'm going to be working/volunteering and whether I'm going to be outdoors in iffy weather. Then I would wear the embossed leather. How low should I wear my sporran? Low enough to clear the bottom of your buckle if you're wearing a belt and high enough so that you're comfortable when driving, sitting, or walking. Have made the mistake of not cinching in my sporran strap enough so that my thighs don't play volleyball with my sporran. I don't wear my kilt often enough for the buckle to mar the cantle or vice-versa in any significant way. What about a jacket? The jacket in the reference pick is a classic style, looks good on the wearer, and goes well with the colors in the tartan. A solid color and a solid pattern goes well with a kilt. I go with a navy blue fleece shawl cardigan or a black twill short jacket. Do I ever wear tweed jacket for daywear? No, weather here is too warm and I generally wear my kilt to the pub, an outdoor event, or a formal dinner. Not enough occasions to make the expense worthwhile.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a waist belt with a sporran. Wearing a waistbelt with a vest or waistcoat is another matter. That's considered wrong unless you're wearing a dirk on your belt which itself is now considered over the top and should only be done on very rare occasions.
This is the traditional sub forum, so I think it's fair to say that when the OP asked his question, a traditional response was in order.
He received the correct answer to his question rather quickly. Shaun Maxwell and McMurdo answered quickly.
From a traditional perspective, an evening sporran is incorrect with casual kilt attire. Question asked, question answered.
While it's true that a lot of people won't know he's doing it wrong, he'd still be doing it wrong and he should at least know that since he asked. He can choose to use this information or not as per his own whim.
The purpose of this subforum is to give straight forward advice on the way things have been done and are still done by Highland Scots with a tradition of kilt wearing in their families. Scotty Thompson's book is not actually the Traditional Highland Dress Bible. While it's a reasonable primer, there are many traditional kilt wearers that take issue with some of the American Thomson's claims.
The pinned post in this subforum that Dr. Colin McGuire and myself composed with input from Jock Scot provides a pretty comprehensive overview on Traditional Highland Civilian Dress and may be of use to the OP and anyone else looking for an answer to questions of this nature.
