			New Artisanal Sghian Dubh

I am the proud and happy owner of a new hand made artisanal sghian made by member (not very active!) Chris Lesutis. I saved pictures he posted on Instagram as it progressed, and took a couple after it got here, so here is the saga:
Blocks of raw African Blackwood arriving in Chris' shop:

Raw handles cut, carved and waiting for insets:

 With the brass pommel attached:

Blades from Rab Gordon's forge - high carbon, Damascus steel

With the blade and diamonds for a rough fitting:

Canada Customs did open it for inspection. (Chris called them "cheeky" for that!)

With a presentation box inside the shipping parcel.

And a presentation case inside that!

 And here it is!

To say I'm delighted would be a gross understatement!

That is a beauty, one of the often overlooked accessories is a sgian dubh, by and large there tends to be a piece of plastic stuffed in your sock top. This would be a wonderful addition to any Highland wardrobe. Congratulations.

Mine is nearing completion. The OP's thread ended my search for quality and craftsmanship that I found lacking on the webosphere. This link might not show my Sghain Dubh long and if it disappears I will edit the thread to photos hosted local. Mine is the one with the Damascus high carbon blade engraved with 'Dunbar' above 'Sub Spe' which is part of the clan motto meaning 'under hope'.
Chris has been great to work with and very receptive to my ideas and also forthcoming with needed suggestions.

 Slainte,

 David
