I've added a few, new entries, from the list of XMarks' advertisers. I did, however, limit it to those listed that publish their location, mention that it is either a retail store or can be visited by-appointment, and advertise that they either make, or sell kilts. For those that have no specific location, I'm still thinking if that ought to be listed on the map, and if so, what would be a good way to do so. 🤔

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Barb Tewksbury's physical location can be found on her personal website. She is located in up-state New York. The little town of Clinton. About half way between Syracuse and Albany.

Bonnie Heather Greene is another. Bonnie is in Westchester county NY. Just NE of metropolitan NYC.

    Many thanks again, Steve.

You wouldn't happen to know if either do kilt fittings, by-appointment?

I've posted a link to the map at http://kiltmap.com . I am planning on keeping the map open for all to see. Suggestions for edits are very much welcome. 'Brick and mortar' type stores (where one can walk into) are generally preferred, but I'd consider adding other things to the list.

Might anyone have suggestions for edits or additions?
This is great fun, dotDLL. Thanks for your time and work!

I noticed on the map you don't have too much info on the shops. Perhaps you can add something to the descriptions to further "identify" the experience of that shop:

Kilt maker with brick and mortar store and kilt accessories (Freedom Kilts, USA Kilts, Burnetts & Struth)
Kilt Maker working from home - Appointment Only (Barb Tewksbury, Bonnie Heather Green, etc)
Retail shop selling kilts made off premises (Celtic Croft, etc)
    Online only retailer (Scotweb, etc)

Interesting thoughts. I like some of the ideas listed there. I'm a bit inclined to adjust the categories a bit, but am unsure to what, exactly.

There is also a bit of limitation in the tools that Google provides. I find it does a great job at making it easy to mark up a map, visualizing where, geographically, places are at in relation to a spot, however the categorization tools can feel a bit limiting. That 'limitation' might just be my engineer-brain working harder than it needs to, though!

I do like the idea of adding some easy-enough way to tell if a place makes kilts, although I'm not entirely sure where I'd draw new category lines, if at all. I've seen some places, seemingly, get kilts made off-premises, but have them be highly customized, whereas other places buy them pre-designed, and as-is. There are also some places that make their own kilts, with their own staff, but don't necessarily do so on-premises. I'm not entirely sure how I'd categorize these.

Somewhat similarly to the above, and regarding 'appointment only' categorization, I've seen some places offer to fit someone for a kilt, providing experience in doing so, but they only do so by appointment.

I'll give this all some more thought.

Hazel Stewart has a shop in Penfield NY, small brick and mortar. Has a selection of socks, accessories and will fit you for a custom kilt. Very pleasant to deal with though I'm waiting for mine as patiently able to.

I like the OP's clear statement of purpose: brick and mortar kilt shops where one can go in and try off-the-peg kilts.

Of course we all realise that that isn't the traditional or ordinary method of kilt purchase.

The only one that comes to mind here in Greater Los Angeles is Blandford Imports in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. They make kilts, have tartan sample-books from several mills, have a fairly large number of off-the-peg handsewn 8-yard traditional kilts, and a large selection of hose, sporrans, jackets, bonnets, pipes and piping supplies, etc.

In Pasadena CA there's a shop called Off Kilter Kilts which is of a different nature; they only carry Utilikilts and their ilk.
