    You are absolutely correct about the cheaper kilts, last year I bought a very cheap kilt from Tartanista
    I wanted it for hillwalking on warm days and from that point of view it is ideal, very light and cool but it does not keep its pleats very well so ironing it , is done frequently, it's great on a warm day in the hills but at times if I was not wearing a sporran I would feel that it's a skirt I'm wearing
