MOD cantle source?
Hello the rabble,
I’d like to get my hands on an antique or antique-style brass functional cantle to make a new daywear sporran. Does anyone know where these can be found? My impression is that they are something of an endangered species, although I know that Scott/Artificer was making new cantles based on the historic hinged type. His website is down, Facebook is inactive, and he’s not accepting PMs through XMarks. I’m wondering if he might have a Cantle or two lying around still...
Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Watch Ebay. They pop up from time to time.
I doubt that Artificer would have any spare brass cantles about, as they were made to order.
Be patient and keep your eyes peeled and you’ll likely get one eventually!

I’ve tried contacting him a couple of times in the past, but never received a response. Perhaps you’ll have better luck.

It's strange, those cantles on Ebay.
One will come up and a bidding frenzy will result and the thing will go for $300.
Or one might come up for a low price and nobody will bid on it.
A few years ago a group of three came up, with a Buy It Now of under $100, and I bought them.
One went to Artificer, and I put one up on Ebay, as I recall with an opening bid of $40 or $50, and nobody bid on it.
I ended up selling it to a fellow XMarker.

Also it's good to troll Etsy. I bought a cantle from someone there.

I have managed to purchase not one but TWO MOD cantles from fellow XMarkers. Much obliged!
I plan to construct the sporran bags myself, and I’m mulling over the possibilities now. One will have horsehair tassels, and perhaps a fur body. The other might be a brogued and targed Hunting sporran. I’ll post photos as the projects develop.

Ok, this thread helped affirm that I was looking at the right places to try to find a cantle if I want to try to create a sporran with the fur pelt my cousins sent me from Norway. Very appreciative for @RichardtheLarge's posting and the responses.
