Regardless of political leanings, it's a nice looking tartan, I think. I too, would love to hear POTUS 44's response if one arrives.

I believe the lure of a charitable contribution attached to the sell of the tartan will be a useful way to get a response. The former President and his Ms. are all about charity where they can find a good cause. Good luck and I also hope the tartan becomes available to the public. It would make a fine look fabric.

No response from President Obama, so now I'm trying the Hunter Foundation. My email to them..(edited to remove, I hope, anything that seems political)
Hello friends. I saw the news article from a while back about the Hunter Foundation having commissioned an Obama family tartan. I am hoping to have access to this tartan to have a kilt made.
It turns out that this is a 'restricted' tartan, effectively meaning that only the Obama family can have the tartan made. I contacted the designer, (Mr Brian Halley, 80 St Vincent St, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland, G2 5UB brian@slanj.com) and he conforms that this is the case. I also sent an email to the President Obama some months ago but have received no reply.
Since it is my understanding that this tartan was commissioned by the Hunter Foundation, I wonder if you could do anything to make the tartan available? I would love to be able to honor President Obama. I like to think that if I could reach President Obama that he would be agreeable to this. Perhaps proceeds from making this tartan could be dedicated to a charity. I raised this topic in a kilt wearers' forum and I believe we would have multiple customers for an Obama family tartan.
Information on this tartan from the Scottish Register of Tartans is below
Many Thanks

Just last night I was reading an article in Smithsonian Magazine and the current national Poet Laureate was referred to as PLOTUS.

It's also one of my favourite gripes - nobody outside of the inner circle has any notion of what folks are talking about when they use acronyms. America seems to have a particular love of them, thus excluding everyone else.

I work for Disney and we are replete with acronyms as well.
At Disneyland we have DLP, TDA, DCA, ELP, DLR, and so forth. We can have conversations quite obscure to outsiders. (Some of the APs know these too!)
My wife's workplace is the same: her job title is GIS Specialist.
