Oh boy, yeah, I have quite a few hose colors in mind for this kilt starting with a pair bison hose I already own, I plan to do red, also the lode green from house of cheviot will look nice, most definitely mustard, hell maybe even cinnamon (really orange) color hose. I already own those, so I'll check when I get back stateside. It'll be a few months before I get to see the kilt in person due to service commitments, but I plan to wear it...a lot when I get home.

About hose-colours, if I were to get a Cavan kilt (which I would like to do) the first thing I'd wear with it are the hose I already have, Bison, Royal Blue, and Ancient Blue (all from Cheviot).

But if wearing my new Cavan kilt, for sure at the next Games I'd head to the booth that carries a wide variety of Cheviot hose and see what looks best. Sometimes it's not what I expect!

My general aesthetic is to avoid the kilt's major colours, the ground-colours one could say, with the hose.

Cavan is unlike so many tartans which have a basic two-colour foundation, but has several colours in fairly even proportions.

I can see Cavan as part of a lovely tweedy earth-toned outfit.

    White hose... meh...

I thought I'd try a little trick that artists do to figure out what's wrong with a particular passage in a painting, and to get an insight into the best solution: cover up that passage, stare at the picture for a few moments, then pull the hand away. The problem will leap out to your eye because while that area is covered your brain fills it in with the ideal solution.

Applying that to the Cavan hose issue, here's one of the photos above but cropped to not show hose or necktie.

What hose does your mind fill in?

I'll toss my ante into the kitty. I'd go with mustard colored hose and dark grey flashes to complete this ensemble.
Combed hair, brushed teeth, clean shave and broad smile for the upper part of the photo.

I tried visualising that and for whatever reason my eye sees a different shade of yellow, I'm not sure how to describe it, but a soft muted yellow...

    Here it is!
