Here in sunny Florida (USA) we treat our local haggis like mistletoe - first we hang it, then we shoot it to make sure.
Similar to alligator, the best meat comes from the tail. Then, at least with the haggis that I've had around these parts, it's well-smoked. I've had no luck smoking haggis, myself; I can't seem to keep it lit for long and when I do get it lit the draw is terrible.
Since we don't like to waste much, every bit of the haggis is used including the hide and boy oh boy, you haven't felt luxury 'til you put on a good pair of haggis hide garter straps!
Now, the real issue comes when haggis season ends and snipe season begins as they quite resemble each other around the snout and the fine for hunting haggis out of season is quite steep.
At a time like this one must ask themselves, 'WWJDD"

Isn't the real debate always over wild-caught haggis vs. farmed? (The vegetarian ones notwithstanding-- those should always be fed organic.)

Adding to the silliness ('Tis the season)..............
A) How can one tell the difference between a male & female Haggis?
C) Were there 2 Haggis on the Ark? If yes, see 1. Where did Noah, or Mrs. Noah gain that knowledge?
D) Size / weight limit for taking Haggis?
E) Are they an endangered species, or could Haggis make humankind (non-sexist term purposely used) endangered?
F) Is their origin from the primordial swamps of the Tulgey Wood?

I am comfortable answering these two questions. Haggis were an aquatic species until crawling from the swamps a few thousand years ago. The Noah family would not have had to provide space for such a species on the Ark. I can't swear to which swamp of origin, but Tulgey sounds right.

Could Noah have towed them behind the Ark?.......if they remembered how to swim? It would have looked like a mini flotilla. Yes, the Tulgey Wood is the one on the right.
Should we start a thread on the Wit & Wisdom of Haggis?

It's understood that they were flourishing up until Rabbie Burns popularized their consumption. Until then it had never actually occurred to anyone to eat them.

Since I started this haggis nonsense (post #19) by mentioning "fake news", maybe you would like to have a go at this quiz - no prizes! Which of these stories is/are false?
1. A "yella yitie" is an emberiza citrinella
2. Rob Roy was a student at Aberdeen University where his uncle was Professor of Mathematics. Here he is about to jump the Culter Burn on his way to classes.

3. The characteristic finger positions in modern Highland dance are a relic of the snapping of fingers in time to the music.
4. Vegetarian haggis is actually vegan.
5. Prince Charlie hid in this cave about 10 miles from where I'm sitting.

6. This is my old school. Its first use was as a barracks for the Hanovarian troops on their way to Culloden.

I’m a little surprised that some enterprising shop on the royal mile hasn’t started selling full mask, haggis, sporrans.
Having bagged a fine, plump haggis the first day of Minnesota's firearm season, I tried my hand at making just such a sporran. Unfortunately, my dog ate the thing half way through the project. I'm going to miss that mutt. By the way, here in God's ice box we hunt our haggis from stands over a bait pile consisting of lutefisk and limburger cheese. Not only does it draw in the haggis, it also keeps Packer fans on their side of the boarder (I'll probably pay for that).
