It's one of those two peoples separated by a common language thing.
A "Holiday" here is a single specially commemorative day which most people get off from work; Memorial Day is a Holiday, Christmas Day is a Holiday.
But the day before and the day after Christmas Day are not Holidays, whether or not we get them off work.
Any period of time you personally arrange to take off of work is a "vacation", even if a Holiday is contained somewhere within it.
BTW single days you take off of work are called "vacation days" or "floating personal days" and maybe other things depending on where you work.
In any case the gig is over!!
I wore my Drummond Of Perth (Muted) kilt from House Of Edgar. It was deemed "Holiday" enough.
