The red kilt hose arrived Monday. They're a little darker than they appeared in the original online photo (also darker than the photos provided by FossilHunter and RichRail). They're going to look terrific with the kilt.

The socks are tartan red ... mostly. About one thread in six is black, instead of red. At a distance, it's a darker red than your tartan red socks. But no one would mistake it for claret. (I haven't purchased claret hose ... yet ... but I took note of the website where the claret hose are sold....)
