    Australian Tartan - SCORE!

I’m so excited I’ve just been able to buy some Australian Tartan.

For anybody interested Ann from Scottish Accessories Shoppe in Croydon NSW was cleaning out during isolation and found 11oz and 14oz weights woven by Marton Mills.

Here’s the information if you would like to order some!

Note to self don't decide to do a 'quick tidy' of that room everyone has, you know the one "can't find a home for it - put it in THE room".

It has been sort of a treasure hunt with gems, memories and rubbish. One of the gems has been rolls of Australia Tartan fabric in both light (11oz) and medium (14oz) weight. Light weight suitable for skirts, trousers, vests etc. Medium weight for kilts.

We have decided to place this fabric on special - lightweight at $70.00 per metre & medium weight at $75.00 per metre. It is not on the website, so please PM or phone for further details.

    Contact is via Facebook messenger.

    Which Australian tartan?

I just Googled and found all of these blue ones

    http://www.tartanhouse.com.au/australian.html

but the one I'm thinking of is a orange-ish brown.

In any case it's cool that they found two bolts of it! 14oz sounds like a good kilt weight.

The blue one is known as The Australian National Tartan
I’ve ordered the beautiful sunburnt country one!

As usual there is politics involved between designers.
The one I have is used by the Aust Army Pipe Band (despite lots of bribes and eye batting by yours truly I couldn’t source a military one)

I “think” the Officers College Duntroon “May” use the blue one

I’m just so damn excited to get some.
There is an old thread from 2013 that DownUnder Kilt started about getting some woven and some history.

I was talking to Ann yesterday and it’s a double sett so I’ll probably be asking questions soon! (Can anyone link to threads discussing Double Sett?)

My preference is to pleat to the blue & white stripe as per Army regulation... but who knows?
