Many thanks gentlemen for your examples and advice! I received many compliments on my New Years outfit, the idea for which was baically stolen from the generous UB's Rob Roy kilt pix. I wore a tuxedo shirt (NO FRILLS!), black bow tie and waistcoat with my Black Watch tartan, and felt comfortably jacketless all night...now if I could just figure out a better way to ride my bike kilted...the bike seat was awfully cold riding through town from party to party.
In case any are interested I have posted 2 pix in my gallery of my garters, which were very comfy, highly efficient (didn't have to adjust my hose all night and the sgian dubh stayed in place) and NOT ELASTIC!

 cheers
 Philibeg

I am ashamed to have to admit that I have forgotten the name of the store..it was on the left hand side of the Royal Mile as you descend to Holyrood Palace. I used to have their card but I seem to have lost it now...I'll keep looking and let you know when (if!) I find it.

Curiously, most of the kiltmakers on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh are located on the left hand side as you descend from The Castle towards The Palace of Holyrood House! However the last one would be Nicholsons in the Canongate section of the street.

I could take you to the door but I cannot, for the life of me, trace the street number!!

 Hoping that helps.

Wow, imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery. I'm glad the outfit went over well.
