Kilt "Passport"
The Scottish Tartans Authority has a new program for fund raising that is actually pretty cool. They have a "Kilt Passport" for sale on the site for a minimal charge. I know that this has been mentioned before, but I have a few of them in-hand, and they're a FANTASTIC idea.
The little blue book looks like a passport, and has pages for your kilt's origin, the specifics on the make and tartan, and a section for events and experiences that the kilt has been to. It's meant to go with the kilt as it's handed down to future generations.
I don't think it's necessarily for kilts that are made of materials that won't stand the test of time, or designs that are "fly-by-night". It IS, however, a great diary or register for the "Tanks" that we have. My 18 ounce Irish National from Edinburgh will have one... along with a picture from the wedding. My son will eventually have the kilt, and a complete record of it. Years from now, there will be a picture of the wedding, and notes of all the Barleyjuice conterts, TV appearances, and events that it went to.
I can HIGHLY recommend the Kilt Passport for those who really want to pass the kilt and it's history on to future generations.
Arise. Kill. Eat.

passport...
Jimmy,
I have mine, and I am in the process of filling it out for my Hector Russell tank. It is a great idea, and a nice hierloom item in it's own right. Any future genealogist would love documentation on ethnic garb in their family tree, I'm sure!
Cheers,
T.

I sent for fourteen way back before Christmas, but have not begun filling them in yet.
They will be used only with my 'tanks' (how I HATE that word! ), and maybe the Breacans, but certainly not with my Utilikilts or similar contemporary garments.
Since I have no offspring to inherit my kilts, I imagine the 'Passports' will serve as records of provenance for whichever Museum takes on the entire Kollection!

What are your measurments? I could always use another "uncle" if you need a beneficiary.

Who me?! I hope the Canadian immigration authorities will not be expecting them I think I'll have more than enough 'gear' to carry without worrying about Kilt Passports.

Colin,
My measurements are my problem!!
Before I accept your offer of becomming my 'nephew', I should remind you that nephews have to be exceedingly kind to their uncles, and have to be constantly "buttering them up", if they are to have any hope of inheriting. Even then, there is no guarantee that they will be favoured when the time comes.
If you still wish to be considered for the post, please request an application form from: The Estate Office, Castle Hamish, Royal Hamishside, Scotland.
Completed forms, together with a recent photograph and the appropriate fee (non-refundable), must be received by The Estate Office no later than tomorrow afternoon

I was recently saddened when I found that Burnetts and Struth only includes the free Kilt Passport with their made-to-order kilts, and not with the sale kilts. I had grand plans of lovingly filling it out with all kinds of information. *sigh* Okay, not that I really would have due to time constraints, but at least the option would have been there.

Oy! Keep away from MY Uncle Ham, mate! After all, I'm the one who's doing his best to go over to the UK to visit Ham next year! 8)
