I work at Stanford University in the Uni libraries. Between the main undergraduate library (Green Library) and my building is a very busy throughway. Tons of traffic uses this walkway/bikeway to go to and from the North dorms to the main part of campus where most of the classes are held.

Some years ago, the Uni libraries noticed this and built a small coffeehouse building on the spot. It's almost a kiosk, all the seating is outside. They leased out the space to a local smalltime coffee-roasting company..NOT Starbucks and not Peets...the biggest truly local coffee outfit. No, they chose a smller company. The coffee is good and they are making a bloody FORTUNE in this location. The rent is a good revenue stream for the libraries, too. You would not believe the number of students, librarians and staff that frequent the place.

I, of course spend a shockingly large part of my salary at "MoonBeans", like everyone else.

I am looking forward to the conversations that will most probably ensue, standing in line at MoonBeans, wearing my kilt.
