Kilts and Culture Tartan

Hi there Serial Kilters.

I love the Kilts and culture tartan that USAKilts have made with the beautiful weather tones of greys and browns. When I see kilt in that tartan pleated to the strip, they usually pleated to the white line. Has anybody seen or have a kilt pleated to the black strip or even the red strip? I would love to see that as I’m considering getting my self one.

That is a handsome tartan, and I think it would work well pleated various ways.

You can do mockups by cutting and pasting that image in various ways.

Without actually seeing it, I think that pleating to the white line in the pale grey would give an overly pale and washed-out kilt rear.

My inclination would be to try pleating it to the pairs of white lines in the brown, for a darker kilt rear.

Much depends on the size of the sett and the width of the pleats.

If the sett was big enough/pleats narrow enough you could have plain black pleats.

There's a cool effect when a kilt is pleated to the darkest part of the tartan, that when you walk the pleats swish and the lighter portion underneath shows.

This is a really good looking tartan. I agree that if pleated to the stripe it should be to the darker area. Either the double white lines or the yellow on each side of the white lines.
